Description
The Magellan Switch was designed for demanding athletes, offers advanced features and is very customizable. The Switch Up, compared to the Switch, has an additional barometric altimeter, temperature indicator, vibration alerts, and a quick release system from the strap which makes it a little thicker than the Switch. These are the only differences that exist between the two models.
The Magellan Switch has all the functions that we find in most GPS fitness watches, but also some unique features that distinguish it such as the Activity Pacer, which is the virtual partner function of the Magellan Switch which instead of simply reporting how far away we are from a specific pace, it also tells us how much we need to slow down or speed up until we reach our goal.
If we are running 15 km and we have to finish it in a specific time and perhaps after a certain number of kilometers we decide to slow down, the Activity Pacer tells us exactly how much we can slow down to stay within the set time.
Reverse, if the pace is too slow, the Activity Pacer indicates how much you need to increase it. Another interesting piece of data is the ETA: depending on the pace, the Switch keeps the ETA – estimated time of arrival – value updated so as to always know the time needed to complete an activity. All this data helps you concentrate while running, without ever getting distracted by doing strange calculations.
The Magellan Switch’s data fields are fully customizable. In addition to running, cycling or swimming, users can create profiles for other sports such as mountain biking, hiking, walking, and multi-sport, a very important option that allows you to combine different activities in a single profile. With the Magellan Switch you can customize up to 9 different activity profiles.
The Switch supports all ANT+ sensors so heart straps, footpods, cadence sensors, power meters etc, which are quickly identified without having to wait.
Used in outdoor swimming, as happens with all GPS watches, it is unable to give precise data on the distance and route of a swim, often with points hundreds of meters away from reality.
In the indoor pool however, due to the lack of an accelerometer, it is not able to count laps and strokes. In any case, it has no problems in water as it is waterproof to a depth of 50m.
It also has two useful functions: Auto Pause and Auto Lap.
Auto Pause is useful when you are running or riding your bike in the city or in places with frequent stops (for example at traffic lights). This automatically pauses the watch when it slows below a certain threshold.
Auto Lap: The unit breaks the workout into intervals based on a predefined distance – for example every km. It is simply used to split a training or race into segments.
The Switch Up also includes a temperature sensor that allows you to display the current temperature on the unit in a data field. Furthermore, you can also set to display the maximum and average temperature and in both Celsius and Fahrenheit.
The Switch Up includes a barometric altimeter, to allow for more accurate altimetry data.
To upload data to your computer, simply connect the switch device to your computer with the included USB cable. Once this is done, open the browser and quickly create an account on the free Magellan Active site.

The Magellan Switch uses the .FIT file format, which is the same format used in Garmin devices. This means that the unit should not encounter any particular obstacles in importing data from other sites such as Training Peaks or Garmin Connect.
